Picturesque local bakery
Getapan
The bakery shop has a wide selection of breads made from domestic wheat, whole wheat, natural yeast and seasonal ingredients, including croissants, quiche and Danish pastry. The shop and its name intrigued the young lady. She was full from breakfast, however the aroma of butter and freshly baked bread won out and she bought herself some treats.

Gratitude for the experience in Shinjo・Mogami
Torigoe Hachiman Jinja Shrine (Nationally Designated Important Cultural Property)
The Torigoe Hachiman Jinja Shrine enshrines a guardian god. Located on the ruins of Torigoe keep in the southeast part of the city, it is the oldest building in Shinjo. It was established in 1638 by Sadamori, Tozawa Yasumori’s adopted son (Tozawa Yasumori was the first Shinjo clan lord). The Hon-den hall features colorful elaborate carvings from the early Edo period. In contrast, the Hai-den hall features the unfinished whole wood style from the middle of the Edo period. In 1986, this historic shrine was designated a nationally important cultural property. The building is also important in that it preserves examples of the aesthetic sense and architectural techniques of the Edo period in the Mogami area.
Afterword (narrator speaking)
The young lady traveler visited various places in Shinjo・Mogami according to the plan she had organized for her trip schedule before she left Taiwan.
I was impressed by her faith that interesting opportunities would present themselves at any time, even if she had to change her plans because of the weather or road conditions. On the first day, it was chilly and drizzling. It wasn’t the best weather to start her trip, although it was better and sunnier on the other days. Her positive attitude created a good chance to meet friendly local residents. She said that the best part of her trip was meeting Shinjo people and she will be sure to come back to Shinjo・Mogami again. Then she flew back to Taiwan. Wouldn’t you like the opportunity to feel the warmth of local residents?
