Boat ride down the Mogami River
They enjoy a boat ride down the Mogami River which is one of the three largest rapid streams in Japan and appears in Matsuo Basho's work entitled Oku-no-Hosomichi while taking in the wonderful scenery. You can enjoy views of the 120m tall Shiraito Falls while getting a close-up look of the waterfowl which ride with the river stream. The boatman surprises them by singing the Mogami River Boat Song in Chinese. The winter only boats with kotatsu heated tables are also very popular.
Mogami River is the setting of the drama Oshin which is also popular in Taiwan
The group of 4 have wanted to sit down at a Japanese kotatsu heated table so they are very excited to ride the kotatsu boat!

Artisans give careful guidance on how to make the soba noodles so even beginners can enjoy this with peace of mind. You can enjoy the soba noodles you made immediately. The taste of Yamagata soba noodles with a great aroma and sweetness is highly regarded by everyone as great.
Finished! Some noodles seem thick but gives them more charm.
Zhang seems nervous wondering if the soba noodles will turn out okay.
The careful instruction of the artisan allows them to stretch out the noodles to the perfect length!
Lee says "It is difficult to get all of them at the same thickness." You can do it!
The 4 are all very happy to enjoy soba noodles they made themselves.

Shinjo Higashiyama-yaki Pottery Workshop
You can enjoy this pottery workshop in the historical Kamamoto Pottery which opened in 1841. The group of 4 are impressed with the vivid blue color called "Dewa Snow Shade" which can only be made with clay from this area. They carefully spin the potter's wheel, making cups, plates and bowls. Let's see how they will turn out.
The 4 listen carefully to the instructor. One of them says "This sounds difficult."
Trying out pottery making techniques with over 170 years of history!
Lin has a serious expression. You wouldn't think this is Lin's first time with these hand techniques.
Chen who had trouble at first has finished a masterpiece under the guidance of the instructor!
This was the first time for everyone, but they did a great job.

Standing Bar Aji Onchi
This izakaya is located in the restaurant district of Shinjo, Akebono-machi. They offer wine, beer and sake from all over the world. Menu items include pizza featuring Italian uncured ham, cheese and local Funagata mushrooms as well as sautés. The group of 4 enjoy a relaxing time with the fun atmosphere and the conversations with the kind owner.
Starting off with sake! The 4 talk about how much they enjoy the atmosphere of the place.
This restaurant is loaded with a retro vibe. There are a wide variety of menu items.
Talking with the restaurant owner is one of the fun parts of coming here.
They enjoy the Yamagata sake and local Funagata mushrooms.
The women enjoyed the mushroom pizza so much, they order seconds!
